The ONA "Organizacion Nacional de Antidrogas", the national Anti Drug Office has chosen sports Events on its way to fight the drug consum of the youth in Venezuela. So for the second time the Copa ONA took place in Playa El Yaque, as part of the venezuelan national Windsurf Tour, where in former Tourstopps actual national Slalom Champion Alexis Carache and actual Freestyle Worldchampion Gollito Estredo have been fighting it out at Contests in Puerto la Cruz, Cumana, and Araya. Also the Copa ONA became a duel of the two contrahents. The more than 65 Participants started their Race together but it were always the two Sails of Carache and Estredo which could be seen at the horizon, blasting back towards the beach and only few metres before the finishing line it was Carache who could pass the line in first place, while Estredo won two races.

The Top Freestyle Spot El Yaque, where 5 of the last 6 Freestyle worldtitles went to, let the spectators wait quite some time for the New School heroes. At the late afternoon of the last Event day, with the Sun almost dropping into the Sea Gollito Estredo, who meanwhile also saved himself the crown for the Kitesurf Long Distance Race, Cheo Diaz, Yoli de Brendt and Co were sent out to proof their skills and fight for the winners cheque. Cheo Diaz started with great performances and an almost perfect flatwater double Loop to excite the crowd. Youngster Deives Paternina followed with another great show, before also Worldchampion Estredo went into the next round with a solid but average sailing. Paternina could start deriggingbhis gear after his Heat against Cheo Diaz and Estredo, after a very much improved Heat followed Diaz into the Final, where Estredo performed one of his outstanding Heats with doublemoves, one handed Culo and one handed Shaka to claim victory also in this discipline.
Yoli de Brendt had some work to do against her venezuelan lady opponents, to save herself the Copa ONA crown. In pretty gusty winds and almost darkness she managed to leave her hardest opponent, ex Freestyle Worldchampion Colette Guadagnino, who won the ladies Slalom Race, behind, with some of her Spocks, Puneta and Shaka. |
